Founder

Juan Laguna Roquero, Architect 9AM Studio

Juan Laguna has wide international experience spanning more than 25 years at notable architectural practices in London, Madrid, Barcelona and Bogota.

He is currently a founding partner of Madrid-based 9AM Studio, a new collaborative project focusing on design, architecture and sustainability. He leads research in the multiple fields related to these disciplines, applying it to complex and innovative projects, and drawing on his wide network to build local and international teams to discover the potential value and opportunities of each new project.

Previously, he was an Associate Partner at Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, London. He began his working relationship with the RSHP team through Estudio Lamela, as part of the site team for the New Terminal 4 at Madrid-Barajas Airport. His experience is reflected in the wide variety of projects he has worked on, whether in the field of building, urban planning or landscaping, covering all phases of the architectural process, from concepts to construction details and on-site supervision.

In recent years he has worked on the Atrio project, a mixed-use urban development in the centre of Bogotá comprising two towers above a large public space. Based in RSHP's London office, Juan was the project architect and design leader for concept, scheme and detail phases of the project. He also led the design team for the MNN Vision Masterplan to advise Crea MNN, the company promoting the ambitious regeneration plan for the area around Chamartín station called Madrid Nuevo Norte.

He is currently working on several projects for the upgrade of obsolete inner-city sites and buildings to create new social spaces that maximise resources and energy efficiency while incorporating agricultural production, like the retrofit of ACdO Studio in Madrid and the IMPD Glories garden in Barcelona.

At the same time, he is Architectural Integration Director on the project for the New South Terminal of Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, in collaboration with Estudio Lamela and Kaan Architects, and working with RSHP on the extension of Terminal 4 of Madrid-Barajas Airport and the site supervision of the Garellano Tower in Bilbao.
